One of the comics I read is selling a poster of the Konami Code. He used a famous painting of the Last Supper as inspiration and modified it to show the code. The original comic was posted 5 years ago in connection to The DaVinci Code movie, and he’s gotten a lot of requests for it over the years, so I hope the pre-order goes well for him.

Macaroni Feather
I’m sure that just about everybody has heard the song “Yankee Doodle” and are aware of the phrase, ”stuck a feather in his hat and called it macaroni”; but I doubt many know what it means. I happened across this, and thought it would be fun to share. Macaroni is an 18th-century British term that refers to rather extravagantly dressed men, and is derived from the fact that they developed a taste for macaroni, which wasn’t well known in Britain at the time. The use of the term in the song indicates a belief that Yanks were so unsophisticated that they would belief a feather in their caps would be considered macaroni.

Webcomic Cookbook
I recently read about a webcomic cookbook and thought the idea was great. And the fact that the proceeds go to food banks is a bonus.

Quaker Cadburys
With all the talk about the Cadbury takeover in the news, I learned something about the company that I didn’t know and that I found a little surprising; Cadbury was founded by two Quaker brothers named Cadbury. But, when I read the early history, it all made sense to me; they started working with cocoa (and other ingredients) to make alternatives to alcohol.

Hey, Check This Out!
I ran across this, and I thought I’d share the link with anyone who might be following me. I think the story is a good one because it points out duality of the prayer. It doesn’t address the fact that the other side is probably making the same prayer (but for their side), but I don’t think it needs to do that to get the point across.

9/9/09
Today is the ninth day of the ninth month in a year ending in ’09; a triplicate of nines. One of the fun thing about nine is that any multiple of nine adds up to nine (multiplying whole numbers, of course). It’s also a triplicate of three; three cubed.

“Geek Chic” Pants
TimCAD recently linked to this, saying he’d kick anyone he saw wearing it in the space bar. A part of me wonders if it’s real, even as another part of me says, ‘they stole my idea’, although they really didn’t because my idea would be significantly less noticeable (someone would have to look closely to notice what I envision). I don’t know if my idea is even feasible yet; incorporating a computer into clothing probably isn’t easy yet. I’m pretty sure I’ve heard of cloth that can conduct electricity, but I doubt my idea would be doable yet.

Bugman123
As I was looking for pictures of fractals yesterday, I ran across this awesome site. It has two pages of various fractals, but that’s not the only thing it has. Among the list of content it has a Bible link, which I thought was unusual but awesome, too. I almost thought I was the only Christian who likes math and science. Almost; I have a few friends and family that would fit in that category, but it still seems to be a rare combination and I’m glad to have found another person who fits in that group.

The nurse left work at five o’clock…
That’s the opening line for round 2 of three-minute fiction. The first round was open-ended and that was kind of overwhelming for me. I have several story ideas, but I didn’t know if any of them would fit the word restraints of the contest. Having a place to start might help me if I decide to write an entry, but I came up with several ideas fairly quickly after I heard about it on NPR, so I don’t know if I’ll be able to do it even with having an opening given to me.
