Oddball Attractions

I figured I might as well do a post about strange attractions after yesterday’s post on unusual hotels.  A good place to start is Roadside America; it mentions the Cosmosphere & Space Center and I’m not sure how strange that is, but it is a fun place to visit.  Nowhere I looked mentioned the grain elevator in Hutchinson that is one of the longest in the world; nor did I see any mention of Dillon Nature Center. But I did find a quiz to take to figure out which attraction I might want to go to.

Color Test Results

I just took a color test that I heard about here.  And here are my results:

Best Occupational Category

You’re an ORGANIZER

Keywords

Self-Control, Practical, Self-Contained, Orderly, Systematic, Precise, and Accurate

These conservative appearing, plotting-types enjoy organizing, data systems, accounting, detail, and accuracy. They often enjoy mathematics and data management activities such as accounting and investment management. Persistence and patience allows them to do detailed paperwork, operate office machines, write business reports, and make charts and graphs.

ORGANIZER CAREERS
Suggested careers are Administrator, Secretary, Printer, Paralegal, Building Inspector, Bank Cashier, Private Secretary, Statistician, Operations Manager, Financial Analyst, Bookkeeper, Medical Records Technician, Developer of Business or Computer Systems, Clerical Worker, Proofreader, Accountant, Administrative Assistant, Banker, Certified Public Accountant, Credit Manager, Store Salesperson, Actuary, Dental Assistant, Business Education Teacher, Food Service Manager, IRS Agent, Budget Analyst, and Underwriter.

ORGANIZER WORKPLACES
Your very careful, conscientious, conservative nature gives others the confidence to trust you with handling money and material possessions. Structured organizations that have well-ordered chains of command work best for you.

Suggested Organizer workplaces are large corporations, business offices, financial lending institutions, banks, insurance companies, accounting firms, and quality control and inspection departments.

2nd Best Occupational Category

You’re a DOER

Keywords:

Emotionally Stable, Reliable, High Energy, Practical, Thrifty, and Persistent

These adventurous types prefer action-oriented, concrete problems rather than dealing with thought-provoking, ambiguous, abstract dilemmas. Fields of interest include mechanical, construction, and outdoor careers. They might also enjoy working with machines, tools, and equipment to repair or build something.

I don’t know about those.  Anybody who saw where  I live would laugh at me being an organizer, then again, I have a lot of stuff.  And I’ve had someone tell me I’m not a doer, but that person’s definition is different.  Still, I feel like my creativity isn’t really touched upon.  And I doubt I’m as practical as it would suggest; both lists have it.  I mean, I daydream all the time.  I envision abstract things.  I want to write fiction.  None of these things gel with the results of the test.  Maybe I over-thought the test.

Pirate Personality

There’s a fun little pirate personality quiz on the pirate day site and my results were:

You are The Cap’n!

Some men and women are born great, some achieve greatness and some slit the throats of any scalawag who stands between them and unlimited power. You never met a man – or woman – you couldn’t eviscerate. You are the definitive Man of Action, the CEO of the Seven Seas, Lee Iacocca in a blousy shirt and drawstring-fly pants. You’re mission-oriented, and if anyone gets in the way, that’s his problem, now isn’t? Your buckle was swashed long ago and you have never been so sure of anything as your ability to bend everyone to your will. You will call anyone out and cut off his head if he shows any sign of taking you on or backing down. If one of your lieutenants shows an overly developed sense of ambition he may find more suitable accommodations in Davy Jones’ locker. That is, of course, IF you notice him. You tend to be self absorbed – a weakness that may keep you from seeing enemies where they are and imagining them where they are not.

Sorting Hat Quiz

I ran across another quiz; this one was for which Hogwarts House the Sorting Hat would choose for you.  I liked the fact that the questions weren’t completely obvious (except for the one that asks which house you want to be in – which I wanted to answer, much like Harry did, ‘not Slytherin, not Slytherin’).   Sure, I could probably figure out the answers for each house, but it was nice to not know immediately which answer went with which house for all of them.

What Hogwarts House Would the Sorting Hat Choose for You?

Congratulations! You’re a Ravenclaw! Have a seat in the Great Hall with Cho Chang, Padma Patil, and the Grey Lady, among others. Rowena Ravenclaw was known for her wisdom and wit. Though your intelligence may show itself in odd forms (remember your fellow Luna Lovegood), it’s sure to help you in a fix. Gryffindor’s bravery may serve well when facing a sword, but it would be well for him to have a Ravenclaw nearby when confronted with a cleverer opponent.

“Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw, if you’ve a ready mind, where those of wit and learning, will always find their kind.”

Hot Dog Trivia

Do you know where the first hot dog was made?  Or how long the world’s longest hot dog was?  Or that some places won’t serve ketchup on hot dogs?  Did you know that Hasbro made food friends for Mr. Potato Head in the 1960′s?

I found and interesting quiz that is about the above and more.  I was surprised at what I knew or was able to guess; like I knew where hot dogs were first served on buns and the etiquette questions, and I guess what New York Polo Grounds hawkers called ‘hot dogs’.  But I wasn’t too surprised by most of what I didn’t know; like the fact that I didn’t know anything about the Wienermobile™.  And I like how it answers which presidents have served hot dogs at official White House events, even though the question only asks about one of them.

Do you know your Ben & Jerry’s flavors?

I found this quiz:  Discontinued Ben & Jerry’s Flavor or Band I Found On MySpace?  I did horribly (2 out of 10).  But then I found Ben & Jerry’s Flavor or Pottery Barn Paint Color?  And I did better (6 out of 12).  Knowing that they’d probably try to trick me, I still decided to go with what seemed right with the first one; but I decided to do the reverse with the second one.  One of them sounded disgusting as a Ben & Jerry’s flavor was indeed one of their flavors.  And another one was in both quizzes.  But, all in all, I thought they were fun (even if I don’t know my Ben & Jerry’s flavors ;D ).

I have a Hunch you’ll like it

I recently heard about the website Hunch.com and decided to try it out.  I took some random quizzes, mostly from the suggested topics, and ran across one for which blog site I should use.  It suggested wordpress, so I think it did a pretty good job there.  In general, I had fun playing on the site.

Some good things are that you can search and browse for quizzes that you might be interested in.  It allows users to make and edit quizzes, and give feedback on them.  And, as I’ve already mentioned, it gives suggested topics to pick from if you don’t just have a specific thing you’re looking for.

Some potential downsides are that it asks you to answer some questions before you start looking into whatever you want it to give you a hunch about so that it can do a better job, but you can create an account so you’d only have to do that once.  It also has the potential of being a big time waster, so you’d have to be careful about getting sucked into taking a lot of quizzes.  But, I think that’s part of the point, to be a lighthearted, fun way to spend some time.
