The Color of Sound

I heard a story about Ida Maria on NPR.   She has synesthesia, and sees colors associated with words and sounds.  I’ve always kind of wondered if this would be distracting.  But, thinking about it a little, I think the worst part about it would probably be that other people wouldn’t perceive things the way you did, and so communicating with others could be rather difficult.  But, it sounds like she’s figured out how to deal with that, and knows how to perform with other musicians.

Mash-Up Music

In the past week I’ve heard a couple of things about this type of music; and I have to say that I don’t think there is anything wrong with it as long as it is decidedly different then the originals that is it mashing up. It’s an art form as much as anything else is.  And it’s not like people are going to get it instead of getting the original artists’ music.  If anything, it will encourage people to get the original artists’ music as well.
